It Started With A Yella Fella

I was outside the other day when a tiny Tennessee Warbler caught my eye. This little yella fella flew down to the upper level of the fountain, first for a sip…

…then for a dip…

…then for an all-out boisterous bath.

And when I say boisterous, I do mean boisterous.

Of course, he did oblige me with a few pretty poses in the process!

For awhile, he had the whole fountain to himself and was merrily splashing, but, once one bird begins bathing it almost always draws the attention of others, and before long, another yella fella dropped in.

This one was a young, male Scarlet Tanager, who watched the warbler…

…and then decided this must clearly be the best bathing spot…

…so he hopped over and claimed it as his own.

Before long, he too was having a boisterous bath…

…and, yes, he too paused to give me some pretty poses.

But wouldn’t you know, something caught his attention…

…and it was another yella fella (probably his brother) showing up to join in the clearly contagious feather wetting!

Right now, most of the birds are showing up for water more than food. I promise though, once winter arrives I’ll post some non-bathing birds!
