Got my first hummingbird photo today. It’s not great quality, but I was excited and had to share. Hopefully I will get better pictures in the days ahead.
Awesome! Well done! They are hard to get photos of with all their movement. Last month I was able to get a few photos of one perched but all my tries of them at the nectar feeder ended up balls of blurr!!
I’m sure I looked pretty comical if anyone was watching me! I think I was stooping and bending and reaching all sorts of ways trying to keep track of where he was headed next.
Last summer I sat (sweating) in a blind about 10 feet from some cardinal flowers to get photos of the RTHBs ( http://bybio.wordpress.com/2013/08/17/a-perfect-fit/). I had to crank the shutter speed up to about 1/2000 to stop the wing action. Good luck, you’re off to a good start!
My camera maxes out at 1/1600 shutter speed. But the blur in this case is totally due to the photographer!
Too excited, huh? I know the feeling. I’m sure 1/1600 shutter speed will do the job for you though. Bright summer daylight helps too.
wow – this is a really good one for the first photograph! So far, I have only blurred ones or black silhouettes!! congratulations to you! 🙂
Thanks! I plan on stalking this little fellow and seeing if I can get some more pictures! 🙂
Very cool! I’m envious. Getting a shot of any bird (beside our budgies) was always difficult for me, let alone a hummingbird! Congrats 🙂
I think a lot of my backyard birds stop and pose just to take pity on me. They know how bad I am at catching them in motion!
