A True Gift To Me

Happy New Year!

As a way of celebrating the year behind and welcoming the year ahead, I thought I’d share the twelve pictures from 2015 that grace the pages of my 2016 Backyard Bird calendar. I made this calendar as a Christmas gift for my parents and a few other folks, but I kept one (of course!) to decorate my own wall.

Being able to get outside and take bird pictures this past year was a true gift to me.
Being able to turn those pictures into presents for others – well – that was a gift to me too.
And being able to share them on this blog – my heart indeed overflows.

May your year ahead be filled with joy and beauty and many moments that make you smile.

  1. Oh Kathy! What beauty! What a brilliant idea to turn these wonderful photos into a calendar gift that gives all year to your family and loved ones! That is such a great idea! I love the blue birds of August the most as they are so rare for us to see and you caught those two together in such a gorgeous pose! Happy new Year Kathy!

    1. I was so happy when those two little bluebirds landed close together and sat for a pose. I have to confess, in the back of my mind, I was thinking – “Oh, I hope that picture turns out to be a calendar shot!” 🙂

  2. You have done a terrific job with your blog last year Kathy! I’m sure that 2016 is going to be even better! Keep up the good work! 🙂

  3. Your birds are beautiful and so impressive. I love seeing their details, amazing how unique nature is! Your calendar sounds like the perfect gift! I’m thrilled I discovered your blog as I love birds!

    1. Thank you so much for the kind words. I know what you mean about seeing the details…I never cease to be amazed at such beautiful handiwork! 🙂

  4. Tell Cathe that it is indeed the “perfect gift” Mom has been busy transferring all the events from last years to this one.
    Love Ya

  5. December’s calendar bird is my favorite! Just love the markings on a Cedar Waxwing. It looks like God took a paintbrush and added just a touch of red and yellow. 😄🎨❤️ Love the idea of giving your photos as a gift in a calendar too! 💕💖

    1. I often think the same thing when I see these birds…they look like they have been hand painted with just a dab on the tips of their tails! And speaking of Waxwings, I saw my first of the season today. 🙂

  6. I so enjoy your pictures, thank you for sharing! Happy New Year to you! May 2016 bring you health and happiness!

  7. Stunning captures, Kathy, and the calendar is a great idea to gift yourself and others, cool! I may ‘steal’ your idea for a great Christmas gift next year to my family. Ssshhhhh, don’t tell them! 🙂 Happy New Year, Kathy!
