A Preference For The Platform

This handsome Red-bellied Woodpecker swooped down the other day in search of a bite to eat.

I thought he was going to sample some of the Bark Butter…

…but instead, he popped over to investigate the peanut platform – which has become a favorite feeding station for many of the backyard birds.

Unlike the Blue Jays, which load up by the beakful, these fellas tend to pick up a single peanut, fly off, and then return to grab another.

There for awhile, these beauties weren’t coming around all that often, but these days (much to my delight!) they are daily diners!

  1. Our rare feeder woodpecker is the Red-headed. The Red-bellieds are here all The time. In fact, these clever birds have even taken to sipping from our hummingbird feeders, and eating the jelly in a bowl that we put out for the orioles. πŸ˜„
