I know I have already posted pictures of the male and female Summer Tanagers enjoying the backyard fountain, but they keep showing up which means I keep snapping pictures to share. Honestly, I never get tired of seeing them, so I hope you don’t get bored either! Just think of this post as a bit of bonus beauty!
The male Tanager stopped by one afternoon while hubby was watering the grass near the fountain, so he first helped himself to a sprinkler shower…
…and then made his way for a dip in the water. He is such a gorgeous guy!
The female came and gave her feathers a thorough soaking in one of the birdbaths. Here’s three pictures of her…
…and here’s three more. You can see in that last shot that she is really making some waves!
Of all the birds that have shown up over this past month, the Tanagers have definitely been my favorites. I think I shall dub them my Septembirds!

What gorgeous, vibrant colors! This bird really stands out. And the photos are excellent, as always. The only bird I can compare to this one is the bullfinch, but it doesn’t come anywhere close to this color.
I’ll have to look up a Bullfinch photo! And these birds really are some of the most vibrant that visit the backyard!
They are simply gorgeous. Are they migrating or will they stay? We have a hoard of sparrows migrating through right now and they LOVE the birdbath. Even in the pouring rain they’re in the bath flinging water everywhere. I used to wonder why the birdbaths ran dry so fast, thinking birds were drinking a lot, but I think it’s the bathing antics that are emptying them so fast!
They hang out during the summer months, but will head south for the winter any day now.
And I totally agree – it’s not the sipping, it’s the splashing that empties the birdbaths!
