When I was out on the back deck the other day, I was delighted when a Tennessee Warbler dropped by mid-migration for a dip in the birdbath.

This little one was trying to get relief from the heat, which has been tottering right around triple digits.
No sooner had I fired off a shot, when our first guest was joined by another…

…and then, in no time at all, there was a trio of tiny travelers all hoping to give their feathers a cleansing.

These little birds are about the friendliest types of Warblers that I have ever encountered, and typically play well with others.
The two that were the first to arrive helped themselves to a hearty splash…

…and then, when things settled down a bit, the third (who was clearly the most timid of the trio) carefully ventured in. Does he not remind you of that person who dips their toe in the pool a dozen times before they tiptoe in?

Before long they were taking turns darting in and out, and splashing up a storm.

Then they would fly out to take cover in a bush and dry for a few minutes…

…and then swoosh back in.

By the time they were finished they were definitely sporting the soppy feather look!

But alas, all good things must come to an end, and the Warblers decided to move on when they were dive-bombed by a Carolina Chickadee that was not quite as well-mannered and who preferred his splashing to be a solo experience.

I have to say, the migratory months are my favorite time to be out with the camera. You just never know who is going to show up for a visit!
