The rain! The rain!
Oh I really don’t mean to complain
But this inclement weather
Gets wetter and wetter
As I gaze through my window pane.
The rain! The rain!
I say this with much disdain
For it seems it’s been years
Since the sun has appeared
And this drizzle’s a dreary refrain.
The rain! The rain!
If I only had half a brain
I’d huddle inside
Where it’s cozy and dry
But what fun is it being sane?
And so, for the sake of my soul and to save my sanity, I simply had to have some picture taking time today.
No sooner had I filled the trays, than this bright male Cardinal arrived.
Several Downy Woodpeckers also swooped in to grab a quick bite. The picture below is a female who came and went several times.
This Chipping Sparrow didn’t seem to mind the wet weather in the least. I think his back feathers look rather exotic.
Two male Red-bellied Woodpeckers dropped by. The first had evidently been hiding out somewhere dry…
…while the second had that drenched and disheveled look. In case you haven’t guessed, the backside of this branch has holes drilled in it that are stuffed with Bark Butter.
A lovely female Cardinal also made an appearance.
Ah…I have to say, getting outside did my heart good…so I’ll close with one last verse.
Oh the rain! The rain!
Less to lose than there was to gain
So I said, “What the heck”
As I went to my deck
And it kept me from going insane!
I love the poetic expression in this post, crowned by gorgeous bird shots 🙂 Rain here too, all day long.
An unplanned post that pretty much wrote itself. 🙂 And I am hoping that the sun pops through today…hope it pays you a visit too.
love it! hope the sun shines on you soon! how close do the birds let you get to them? do you use a zoom lens?
If I am taking pictures and the birds are on the deck feeders, then I am only about 15 feet away. But my bird camera (Canon SX 50 HS) has a nice bit of zoom. 🙂
Lovely clear pics Kathy, yes, us birders are insanely in love with our sport of capturing our feathered friends in the moment. Getting wet and cold is all part of the fun. My wife and I went out in the rain recently and we had a wonderful time birding, and just inhaling the scent of the wet forest.
Yes…sometimes the less than ideal weather simply adds to the fun. 🙂
Great post, really fun to read!!! Love that little cardinal lady at the end, she´s too cute – although she seems to have quite a “Bad Hair”-day… 😉
So glad you enjoyed it. 🙂
Love your poem and loved your beautiful bird friends!
Thanks! That was a fun one to write. 🙂
LOL, love it! This past week I have felt like Shakespeare: “For the rain it raineth every day..” (Twelfth Night) 😉
I have to confess, it was a fun post to put together. 🙂
