Still Toddler Tending

The family of Carolina Wrens that I’ve been telling you about is still showing up every day.

The toddlers are venturing out more on their own…

…but they still are quite demanding when they want to be fed!

And Mama continues to perch herself on overhead branches and sing loudly.
I have gotten to be fairly fluent in Wren, so my best interpretation of her song lyrics are –

I’m busy, busy, busy ’til the setting of the sun
Oh, a Mama’s hard work is never ever done
I’m clearly outnumbered so they’re bound to misbehave
While I gather up the grub that these hungry toddlers crave
Still I’ll sit and I’ll sing while they squawk and they pester
Cause I know very soon I will be an empty nester!

This will likely be the last post for this batch of babies because the migrators are starting to pass through and I can hardly wait to share them with you!

  1. Oh this is adorable! Love your poem song!! And of course the photos.

I have been entertained with two female long tailed grackles Moms. It’s interesting that the Mom and babies have claimed their territory and they don’t intermingle with families. The Mom with three mouths to feed stays on the north side and the Mom with two mouths stay on the south side of my back yard. It’s been fun watching them all. I’m not clever enough to write a poem song for them. Although I have created the dialogues of some of the other bird visitors.

Enjoy our babies while we can. Chicks grow up so quickly… with in days or weeks.
